It is true that firefighters are often the first responders on the scene. The first step of a firefighting operation is a reconnaissance to find the origin of the fire, and in doing so to identify the specific risks. Ideally, firefighters would consult an existing floor plan of a building to provide them with knowledge of existing structures and may even include strategies and tactics. Their are several strategies to remove people from burning buildings. The best rescue method, of course, is to remove people at the same time as you fight the fire, but in the event that their are not enough resources to do so, firefighters will focus solely on evacuating people from the building until reinforcements arrive. To conduct rescue and extinguish a fire at the same time you need a large number of firefighters on the scene, and a good water supply, which is not always the case, particularly in small rural departments. Finally, in the event that a building that is on fire is a high-rise (defined as a building over 75 feet), the best rescue method is often to “defend in place”. This strategy requires that the fire be extinguished before people are evacuated, because removing all of the people could take several hours.

A house fire is one of the worst things to happen to a family. Everything you own and love are inside that house and turn to ashes when the fire is put out. The bottom line is that your family is safe. Your stuff can be replaced but your family can not. Fires start from numerous of ways, Electrical, kitchen, or just not paying attention to details when working with “Hot tools”. So the first thing you want to do is inspect your home. Pay attention to loose electrical wires and flammable spills such as oily rags in the garage. Talk to the fire department and ask an officer to tag along. Out of everybody they will know what to spot. Have a family meeting and educate your family on evacuation plans and the dangers of fire. Have test runs with different scenarios because fires are unpredictable and as the saying goes “Practice makes perfect”. Check your smoke detectors and install fire extinguishers and learn how to use it.In every closet in the rooms upstairs should be a escape ladder. A good way to let the fire department know you have pets in the house are sickers placed in the window stating what and how many are in the house. If that unfortunate day comes and your house is engulf in flames. STOP! remain calm and remember your practice runs. Meet at the rendezvous point at a safe distance. Number one rule is to never go back in. Let me repeat. NEVER RUN BACK INSIDE! Let the fire department do there thing. That is what they get paid for. It is better to have the knowledge when nothing happens then not knowing what to do when something does happen.Still bored?

Emergency medical services are an integral part of the community. In the even that an accident, sudden illness, or allergic reaction happens, these services can be summoned quickly to help. Although these personnel are citizens just like everyone else, we rely on them in times of disaster. Emergency medical service personnel are highly trained in emergency medical care. They practice scenarios over and over again, to ensure that when the real thing happens, they are prepared.

The training given to rising emergency medical technicians range in length. There are information packed courses as short as 12 weeks. On the other end of the spectrum there are six month ,more leisurely, courses are available. Even though the courses vary in length, the students are required to retain the same knowledge, just within a different period of time.

Car accidents are one of the most often occurring thing that requires emergency medical services. When a car accident happens and the emergency lines are called, medical teams are dispatched every time, even if the caller claims none are required. When people have strokes or heart attacks, emergency medical professionals can start preliminary care on the way to the hospital. This preliminary care can often end up being the difference in the patients life or death.

If you are interested in working in the field of emergency medical services (EMS), then you will need to obtain certification and, depending on the state you live in, may need to pass an exam and obtain licensing. If you are interested in becoming a Certified First Responder, which are the individuals that first provide emergency assistance, then you will need to learn basic skills, which include assessing patients and practicing safety techniques. If you wish to become an EMT-Basic, which are individuals skilled to handle a variety of medical emergencies, then you will receive training in various areas including how to manage fractures and bleeding, CPR, and how to use certain emergency equipment. If you wish to expand your EMS skills even further, then you may wish to train as an EMT-Intermediate, which are the individuals who may be specialized and receive more advanced training. During training, some skills taught include learning to start an IV and using advanced airway devices. The most advanced level of training is the EMT-Paramedic, who responds to a large variety of medical emergencies and can start IVs and administer medication. They receive training in areas including advanced airway management and anatomy and physiology.
